Genocide

Rwanda 🇷🇼 “I decided not to come and hide in the church where most of my neighbours were. I was convinced that it’s not good to hide in a group. Instead I went to the other side where there is a swamp. There was a point during the night, while I was hiding when killers came. We were resting after running away from attacks for the whole day. I was hiding in the banana trees. They killed all the people I was hiding with. I ran away alone. It is so hard to see your parents, brothers and sisters killed, to see attacks with your own eyes. Later I found out that the church I had decided not to hide in has been hit by grenades and everyone inside was dead.

What keeps me strong today is the death of my family. Because I’m convinced that I have to, not just to survive, but to go further than our parents have, because I’m sure that I’m there for them. I’m a representative of my family destroyed and the best revenge for me is success. The is the principle which guides me during my life. So the best revenge is success. I tried my best to be a good representative of my family. This encourages me. In whatever I do, I’m guided to be someone in the society, to be a good representative of my family destroyed.”
