Being a Refugee

Being a refugee is an ultimate story of survival.

Survival beyond the home you lose, the heritage ripped from your being. The surroundings and smells of the familiar that disappear.

The reciprocal nature of familiarity and how it nourishes your spirit…gone.

YOU are taken.

The identity of others, not your own, surrounds you now.

Poor & undervalued. Radical acts of kindness, albeit few and far between, touch you deeply, making you feel human again.

Loss. Pieces. Confusion.

But then..

Piecing together.

Found. New. Hope. Money. Silence. Breathe again.

Opportunity comes when it is least expected.

New understanding. Rebirth. Children. Miracles.

A connection deeper than ever before. A life of diversity, of multiples, it’s not singular anymore.

Beauty. New. Love. Inclusivity. Pride.

Identity 🌹
